A Bodhran is an Irish frame drum that is believed to have evolved from the tambourine. Although most commonly seen in Ireland the Bodhran has gained popularity throughout the Celtic music world and was made popular by Sen Riada in the 1960s. The Bodhran is with played with the bare hand or with a lathe-turned piece of wood called a bone or tipper. Tension is controlled by the player placing their hand on the inside of the skin; the Bodhran is then struck with the other hand
